Jud’s Game Rating:

Graphics ****  Player participation (PP) ***  Satisfaction Factor (SF) ***

Frustration Factor (FF) ***  Fair Play (FP) **

Well this was a disappointment!  It began with Basic Options, and a Tutorial showing the interesting array of Inventory, List, Hints, Journal choices.  There were the usual pieces of  Hidden Objects to find that assembled when all was found so you could use them to further your progress.  There were also the occasional HO scenes to search, which were a little better, but on the whole the FP is poor.  HOs were so hidden that the tiniest fragment peeped between leaves, or were hidden in areas that required magnification.  I wasted valuable time of my Free Trial Hour unable to find the fragment that would complete a location.

NB:  Check all the screen carefully for changes to the Cursor.  In particular you are looking for the Magnifier.

The Graphics are great!  But what is the good of that if the FP is negligible?  I thought “Great!  the graphics are nice and clear, delineated, colourful, interesting” when I began the game.  But I was quickly let down.  Another let down were the lengthy Dialogue/Narrative scenes interspersed before, between and after each location. FF  I guess it’s not so bad once you have bought the game, and you could Skip – which I did for the third lot of Dialogue, which meant I didn’t know what I was suppposed to be doing at the next location.  But it was another time-waster for the try-out.

I did like the Scrollable Backgrounds – this gave you a wider screen to search.  There were Hotspots to apply Items to – once you had worked our which went where after you had collected all the pieces.  There was a lock on the Inventory/Items List Bar so you could stop it popping up in the way, if you wanted to.  I could see that if I went much further I would be utilising that.

But on the whole it was a let down.  Such a disappointment.  There are so few games that have clearly defined graphics so you don’t get eye-strain and headaches from peering at the screen, trying to locate items in the murk and haze.

With its high FF and low FP and SF!  I don’t really recommend this game.

About judsartwork

I write reviews of Adventure and Hidden Object games that are Crime, Fantasy, SciFi, Renovation, Travel, Quest and/or Mystery by genre. I have a Masters in Writing (2006) and have been writing novels, both crime and fantasy for many years; plus Haiku, verse, and prose both fictional and literary. I am also an artist of modern, Acrylic, textural and hard edge work, underwater, fantasy, expressionist, and Cosmos paintings. I use mixed media (Acrylic, Watercolour, Pastels) in textural Monoprints, finding surprises to expose within each work. Having both an analytical and creative mind has meant that I have strong powers of observation, and the persistence required to follow computer problems through till I solve them. Of course I am not always successful, but am willing to ask for a little help in order to then unlock the main problem myself. My Troubleshooting Blog, 'Problems and Solutions', was the result of my tenacity.
