Sinister thrills await in this gorgeously dark and unsettling telling of a real-life ghost story from New Orleans’ shadowy history. Free trapped spirits, cast spells and unlock fragments hidden in the paranormal world to reveal the story of a misguided voodoo queen. Use your wits as you dive into a spooky world in Deadtime Stories, a haunting Hidden Object Adventure game. Discover the history and secrets of 19th century New Orleans! (BigFish Sales Blurb)

For a really dark game, the Graphics on this one are clear and colourful – part of the reason I bought it.That is not to say that there are no problems with it – well, ‘problems’ is a bit strong a word for it, as the ‘Claw’ Cursor is quite awkward to use.  The game flows well, starting Play with a good, clear Tutorial Page, so you aren’t constantly interrupted as you proceed.  The Options are okay and need a little tweaking as usual.  I suggest you keep notes as you proceed as your Journal and Potion Books only give you Herbal plants info and Potion Recipes.

The Story is macabre as you would expect from the ‘Blurb’, and is Adventure/Hidden Object evenly spread, with some Puzzles tossed in.  These are not too difficult, and you can  Skip them if they are ones you dislike.  The Graphics are clear for the HO sites, and are the normal lists to search through to gain the Item you want.  You can use Inventory Items on those in the HO sites which is a little unusual.  You spend some time searching for Potion Ingredients and mixing Potions – this acts as stepping stones or unmarked chapter breaks within the game.

It’s a Fun Game – I hope you enjoy it.  I recommend it.

About judsartwork

I write reviews of Adventure and Hidden Object games that are Crime, Fantasy, SciFi, Renovation, Travel, Quest and/or Mystery by genre. I have a Masters in Writing (2006) and have been writing novels, both crime and fantasy for many years; plus Haiku, verse, and prose both fictional and literary. I am also an artist of modern, Acrylic, textural and hard edge work, underwater, fantasy, expressionist, and Cosmos paintings. I use mixed media (Acrylic, Watercolour, Pastels) in textural Monoprints, finding surprises to expose within each work. Having both an analytical and creative mind has meant that I have strong powers of observation, and the persistence required to follow computer problems through till I solve them. Of course I am not always successful, but am willing to ask for a little help in order to then unlock the main problem myself. My Troubleshooting Blog, 'Problems and Solutions', was the result of my tenacity.
