MYSTERY TRACKERS: DETECTIVE CLUB Series I – V

by ELEPHANT GAMES; BIGFISH GAMES

Jud’s Game Rating:

THE VOID – Collector’s Edition – JUST OKAY

Graphics *** Player participation (PP) **** Satisfaction Factor (SF) ****

Frustration Factor (FF) *Fair Play (FP) *** Tedium Factor (TF) Nil

This is more Hidden Object than and Adventure game.  Has Basic Options; Strategy Guide in Main Menu.  I have added it to my Rejected games list.  It has a particularly useless Swapping Hearts Puzzle – this type never works unless you can swap the items back and forth rather than only forwards.  You do however receive more than one Item per HO site.  The clarity of the Graphics is unsatisfactory both in PC and Mac – poor visibility, peering at screen, always off-putting.  HOs are well hidden, both fairly and unfairly – harder to see due to size and blur.  Not Wide Screen; very Basic Diary; some Puzzles have glitches

This game is okay but not as good as the rest of the Series – I still can see no reason to buy it.

RAINCLIFF – Collector’s Edition

Graphics **** Player participation (PP) **** Satisfaction Factor (SF) ****

Frustration Factor (FF) *Fair Play (FP) *** Tedium Factor (TF) Nil

This has Casual/Advanced/Hardcore Difficulty Modes, and no Map.  It starts off in snow which is rather appealing.  There is a spooky Poltergeist; and you have to find 60 Secret Frogs.  The story and game-play seems rather aimless at first, and doesn’t feel successful.  The Graphics are okay re clarity, and are imaginative and colourful.

BLACK ISLE – Collector’s Edition – BETTER

Graphics **** Player participation (PP) **** Satisfaction Factor (SF) ****

Frustration Factor (FF) * Fair Play (FP) **** Tedium Factor (TF) Nil

Great OPTIONS; excellent Main menu; Casual/Advanced/Hardcare Difficulty Modes.  Hidden Object sites fairly clear.  Find 50 Secret Owls.  I love that you use Inventory Items within HO sites.  Some Puzzles are a Pain – mind numbing – a relief rather than satisfying once they are completed – Skip them.  The Map is Interactive – you can jump from site to site – but it doesn’t show Tasks at all sites (like newer Elephant Games do).

FOUR ACES – Collector’s Edition  –  SOME IMPROVEMENT

Graphics **** Player participation (PP) ***** Satisfaction Factor (SF) *****

Frustration Factor (FF) * Fair Play (FP) **** Tedium Factor (TF) Nil

This has a good Opening and a great Main Menu.  The Difficulty Modes are Casual/Advanced/Hardcore/Detective.  The Interactive Map is invaluable.  Visit the Shop just means that you get to spend the Chips you have been collecting on Gifts for the Dog, ELF.  Really long and involved game – story driven with gorgeous Graphics, colourful and satisfying.  There are scary sudden moves which is cool, and you can see the thought that has gone into every element of the art-work and design.

SILENT HOLLOW – Collector’s Edition – HUGE IMPROVEMENT

Graphics ***** Player participation (PP) ***** Satisfaction Factor (SF) *****

Frustration Factor (FF) * Fair Play (FP) ***** Tedium Factor (TF) Nil

By this time I am saying WOW!  Elephant Games really got their act together with this game of the Series.  The SCIFI/Fantasy/Adventure has a great Options which includes Gamma control; Casual/Advanced/Hardcore/Detective Difficulty Modes; Interactive Map; logical steps back and forth; ELF the Dog to help you; and other Tracker’s Pets to find to help you as you proceed; and a Brilliant Story!  The Devices in the game – some magical, some scientific – provide you with skills.  You interact with characters in order to get the next step in the game.  After the Bonus game is complete a Secret Room opens up, and you can replay not only Puzzles, but HO sites as well.

About judsartwork

I write reviews of Adventure and Hidden Object games that are Crime, Fantasy, SciFi, Renovation, Travel, Quest and/or Mystery by genre. I have a Masters in Writing (2006) and have been writing novels, both crime and fantasy for many years; plus Haiku, verse, and prose both fictional and literary. I am also an artist of modern, Acrylic, textural and hard edge work, underwater, fantasy, expressionist, and Cosmos paintings. I use mixed media (Acrylic, Watercolour, Pastels) in textural Monoprints, finding surprises to expose within each work. Having both an analytical and creative mind has meant that I have strong powers of observation, and the persistence required to follow computer problems through till I solve them. Of course I am not always successful, but am willing to ask for a little help in order to then unlock the main problem myself. My Troubleshooting Blog, 'Problems and Solutions', was the result of my tenacity.
