HIDDEN MYSTERIES – Salem Secrets

Frustration Factor (FF)  **     Fair Play (FP) **

This is a game that I could enjoy very much if it weren’t for the appalling ‘atmospheric’ graphics!   It’s not just the Hidden Object sites either though they are worse than usual.  I took off my glasses, wiped my eyes, cleaned the lenses, put them back and and found that it wasn’t my eyes, but the game screen.  And I was still on the Main Menu!

If I hadn’t bought another of the series – the gameplay and graphics of which were almost excellent – I wouldn’t have even bothered to go any further.  But I think this may have been an earlier game.  If it’s not – if it’s a later game then there is absolutely no excuse for presenting such adverse graphic playing conditions to the potential customers.  I found myself leaning in to the screen to try to see through the gloom – really hard on the eyes.

The story is well constructed, integrated in the game, and draws you in as you progress.  You need to go back and forth between sites many times, but as these are in and around the town this is easy and interesting.  There are the usual sparkling Hidden Object sites sprinkled throughout the many locations, rewarding you with items to use as necessary in other sites.  You can Right Click the mouse to show you which sites are active which is handy if you are not sure.

A great game ruined!  If you have xray vision then by all means try it.  But I recommend that you try the alternative – HIDDEN MYSTERIES – FORBIDDEN CITY instead.
